A defect is an item that is incomplete, faulty, or does not meet standards, and typically affects functionality and safety. Cosmetic items may be raised; however, they are generally not accepted after settlement. Items resulting from normal wear and tear, post-settlement damage, or ongoing maintenance are not considered defects. Appliance issues should be addressed under the manufacturer's warranty.
